One person is dead, four others are injured and a suspect is at large after a shooting inside a building in Midtown Atlanta, police said Wednesday.

“Officers are actively searching for the suspect and any other victims,” the Atlanta Police Department wrote on Twitter.

Northside Hospital said on Twitter the shooting happened at its midtown location.

No additional shots have been fired since the initial incident, described as an “active shooter situation,” unfolded, police said. The four injured people were taken to a hospital and one person died at the scene, police said.

The suspect in the incident is “at large,” the department wrote on Twitter, sharing four surveillance photos of the alleged shooter.

“Anyone with any information on this person’s whereabouts is asked to call 911. The suspect is believed to be armed and dangerous and should not be approached,” police wrote on Twitter.

The incident was taking place “in the area of 1110 W Peachtree St NW,” the department said on Twitter. The department called on anyone in the area to secure their building and shelter in place. Anyone not in the area is asked to stay away, police said.

Atlanta Public Schools issued a safety alert saying several schools will be locked down for the remainder of the day “out of an abundance of caution,” until further information from law enforcement.

“Families, this may create traffic issues which could result in bus delays this afternoon,” the district wrote on Twitter.

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens said he was aware of the incident and was in close contact with law enforcement.

Live helicopter video from WXIA-TV showed dozens of law enforcement officers on the scene.

The incident is the 191st mass shooting in the U.S. this year, defined as at least four victims hit by gunfire, according to the Gun Violence Archive, a nonprofit that tracks shootings.
