A WOMAN has died after a car drove over the edge of a cliff and smashed into the rocks below.
The motor left the road at Culver Down on the Isle of Wight before ploughing through a cliff fence at 8am this morning.
Coastguard teams abseiled the cliff to attend the wreckage, along with lifeboat volunteers.
Firefighters and paramedics also attended the scene.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said: “We were called at 7.30am to reports that a car had gone over a cliff near Culver Down Road.
“Emergency services attended the scene and confirmed a woman inside the car had sadly died.
“Her death is not being treated as suspicious.”
The woman’s family have been informed, and the vehicle remains at the bottom of the cliff.
