The Nigerian franchise of the Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the bomb blast on Tuesday in Dutse, the capital of Nigeria’s northwestern state of Jigawa.
Earlier reports about the explosion said one person was injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded in the evening around Hakimi Street.
In its communication claiming responsibility for the blast, the terror group claimed three fatalities were recorded.
The incident marks the first known attack by the terror group in Jigawa, which borders the northwest state of Kano and the northeastern state of Yobe.
The neighbouring states have experienced both small and large-scale ISWAP operations. Yobe is one of the States suffering the most from the over a decade-long insurgency.
In May last year, The governor of Jigawa, Muhammad Badaru, urged residents to be vigilant following reports of suspicious movement of Boko Haram insurgents.
Boko Haram is often used as a generic description for ISWAP and its rival parent group Boko Haram.
The incident in Jigawa comes days after the terror group claimed responsibility for killing three security personnel during an attack in Edo state in southern Nigeria.
