The child was left fighting for her life in Clifton Park in South Yorkshire at 4pm as she waited for an air ambulance.
But despite medics’ best efforts, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cops revealed the death was not being treated as suspicious – and witnesses have now told of the chaos that enfolded.
One mum, who in the park at the time, told MailOnline: “All I know is that everything was normal until I saw some kids run over to some adults.
“They shouted something like ‘It’s her pacemaker’. Then all hell broke loose and they started CPR.”
She added: “We were all hoping the child would be okay. But then a load of police cars and the air ambulance turned up and we began to fear the worst.
“I think the kids who were shouting were telling their parents what happened. The parents were then trying to do the CPR.
“I don’t know the family involved. I had never seen them before. But obviously everyone is very sad for what happened and our hearts go out to them.”
Another mother who was in the park said: “I heard it was a problem with the kiddie’s pacemaker and they were escorted to the hospital but it was too late.
“It had been a lovely afternoon and all the children had been enjoying themselves. Then we saw the police and ambulance go past and knew it was something serious.
“When they realised it was the pacemaker, they arranged for the family to be escorted to hospital.
“It must have been terrible for the parents to have a child so sick they needed a pacemaker in the first place and then something went wrong and this has happened.”
South Yorkshire Police has launched an investigation into the death.
