So if you are green fingered and need something to do this Easter weekend, you’ll want to listen up quickly.
Michael (@themediterraneangardener) took to TikTok to share his simple tips and tricks to ensure that your garden will look great for Spring.
He said: “Gardening jobs for April.
“Now is the perfect time to start cutting your lawn again, but remember not too low.
“Around 4cm is perfect.
“You might also want to aerate, scarify and lay some seed to repair dead patches.
“Prune your hydrangeas, making sure you’re pruning in the correct way for the type that you have.
“Protect the new shoots of vulnerable plants like delphiniums, hostas and lupins from slugs and snails.
“It’s the perfect time to move perennials that you think are in the wrong place and while you’re there, you can divide them to get new plants to fill your borders.
“Then give everything a good mulch to suppress weeds and improve the soil.
“Start sowing hardy annuals and sunflowers.
“Finally check the guttering on your home, sheds and greenhouses so that April showers fill up your water butts.
“And get your greenhouse clean for the growing season.”
Michael shared his clip just one day ago, but it has clearly impressed many as it has quickly gone viral and has amassed a whopping 1 million views.
It has 34.9k likes, 449 comments and 3,023 shares.
Social media users were grateful for his tips and many took to the comments to ask questions about their back gardens.
One person said: “What do you use to keep the slugs and snails away? Nothing I try has worked!” to which Michael confirmed “To slow them down, try copper tape around your plants. If you want to control them then I’d suggest Nematodes. Nemaslug is a good product.”
Another added: “Can you divide a mature hydrangea if you are moving it?” to which Michael explained “Yes you can – but if it’s really mature it’s quite a hard job. You might be better off taking cuttings.”
A third commented: “My lawn has become really mossy over the winter – is now a good time to treat that?” to which Michael replied “Yes – great time to scarify and reseed.”
