Occasional Digest - a story for you

WRESTLEMANIA 39 is just around the corner, with 11 big matches planned to take place.

It’s an exciting one, as Roman Reigns has held his championship title for almost 1k days.

To find out the outcome of these matches, we’ve put them through the AI in WWE 2K23 to see who will be the victor.

These are our predictions for WrestleMania 39.

Austin Theory vs John Cena

In a fight for the United States Championship, Austin Theory will face off against John Cena.

In our simulated match-up, Cena ran rings around Theory, finishing him off with a Five-Knuckle Shuffle.

It’s not impossible that Cena could win this, but he has been wrestling less and less in recent years.

Despite what WWE 2K23 says, we think Theory probably has this one on lockdown.

Seth Rollins vs Logan Paul

The match between Seth Rollins and Logan Paul could be one of the best of the night.

It will be all about a quick offensive, and each wrestler trying to counter the other’s onslaught.

In our WWE 2K23 simulation, Rollins Curb Stomped Paul for the win.

We think this is likely the correct call, but wouldn’t be shocked if Paul took it home.

Damage CTRL vs Becky Lynch, Lita & Trish Stratus

This six-person tag match is bound to end in an all-out brawl, and that’s just what WWE 2K23 predicts.

Damage CTRL’s Bayley is bound to get the action started against Becky Lynch, before the others get in on the action.

Dakota Kai finished things off in our simulation, winning the match for Damage CTRL.

We have to disagree though, as Becky, Lita and Trish seem guaranteed to win this one.

Brock Lesnar vs Omos

We predict this will be one of the less interesting matches of the night, and WWE 2K23 seems to think the same.

Nothing particularly interesting happened for the first five minutes, making for an uneventful match.

Then Brock Lesnar finished the match with a single F5 for the win.

We wouldn’t be surprised if this is exactly how things end up playing out.

Bianca Belair vs Asuka

The Raw Women’s Championship will take place between Bianca Belair and Asuka.

We think this match will heat up very quickly, with Belair’s strong moves knocking Asuka off her feet.

In our WWE 2K23 match Asuka managed to pull off her Asuka Lock for the win.

This match could go either way, but we think Asuka does have the advantage here.

Gunther vs Drew McIntyre vs Sheamus

For the Intercontinental Championship, these three beefy boys will face off against each other.

We expect this to be hard-hitting strikes from the start, and will often break out into one-on-one fights.

Gunther’s use of his Powerbomb led to his victory in our WWE 2K23 match.

This lined up with our expectations, and Gunther’s dominance has been unchallenged since the summer.

Finn Balor vs Edge

This year’s Hell in a Cell will see the long-time feud between Finn Balor and Edge come to a head.

Balor and Judgement Day have been made a mockery by Edge the whole time this feud has played out.

Edge also appeared to dominate our WWE 2K23 match, before things reversed on him for Balor to take the win.

We hope that Balor will have a dominant victory here, to show that he has some bite.

Rey Mysterio vs Dominik Mysterio

This is a battle of father vs son, where we will see if experience wins over age.

The luchador style will be out in full force here, as each tries to gain dominance over the other.

After some back and forth, WWE 2K23 believes Rey will end the match decisively.

We agree, and hope to see the rebellious Dominik put in his place.

Charlotte Flair vs Rhea Ripley

For the Smackdown Women’s Championship we will see current champion Charlotte Flair face off against Rhea Ripley.

In our simulation Rhea dominated early on, before the tide slowly turned in Charlotte’s favour.

A botched Elbow Drop was Ripley’s doom as Charlotte Flair hit a final Natural Selection.

We think WWE 2K23 might be wrong on this one, as Ripley has been on a roll this year.

The Usos vs Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn

In the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships, The Usos will take on Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.

This will be an emotionally charged match, full of top action and with all of the story-based drama that goes with it.

Our WWE 2K23 match ended with Zayn and Jey Uso brawling outside of the ring before the referee declared a draw.

This is unlikely to happen in the real thing, and we think Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn will take it home.

Roman Reigns(c) vs Cody Rhodes

The biggest match of the event, the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship fight, will take place between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes.

This battle is likely to take more than 30 minutes, but our simulation was a clear-cut victory for Reigns.

With Cody giving out no offence in our WWE 2K23 match, he seemed doomed for failure.

However, we think it could be unlikely for Reigns to take his reign over 1k days, and think Rhodes is in with a strong chance to overthrow.
