AUSTRALIAN actor Peter Hardy has tragically died leaving many in his home country shocked by the news.

The much-loved star has appeared in many TV series and films with tributes flooding in for the popular personality.

Who was Peter Hardy?

Peter Hardy was an Australian actor who appeared in hit TV show Neighbours in 1997 as character Jimmy Drane.

He was a well-known actor, musician and theatre performer.

The 66-year-old had been living in London but had travelled back to Perth to visit his mother.

Hardy had appeared in a number of Australian films and TV series but was best known for his parts as Phil Rakich McLeod’s Daughters and Detective Cooney in Chopper.

What was Peter Hardy’s cause of death?

Peter Hardy was reportedly drowned while snorkelling at South Beach in Fremantle.

His body was found on the beach and bystanders tried to administer CPR to the actor before paramedics arrived.

When they arrived at the scene, they were unable to save him and he died at the scene.

His brother Michael posted to social media “I’m devastated to say that my brother, Peter Hardy, passed away suddenly this morning.

“Rest in Peace my beloved little brother.”

Meanwhile a close friend of the actor, Andy Burns, posted as tribute for his friend “On the morning of March 16th a dear friend was taken from us… the amazing and beautiful Peter Hardy drowned while snorkelling at South Beach Perth.

“He was 66 years old and looked like a Greek god, so fit and so happy to be back in his native WA visiting from London where he had made his home.”

Another friend, Ross Anderson, wrote “This news is such a heartbreaking shock.

“He’ll be held in the wide arms of the ocean he grow up beside, and in the hearts of all those he welcomed into his vital and witty orbit.

“Sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.”
