Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, have received “email correspondence” about King Charles III’s coronation but are not yet confirming publicly whether they will attend, a spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex says.
Key points:
- A spokesman for Prince Harry did not disclose whether the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would attend
- King Charles III’s coronation will be held on May 6 at Westminster Abbey
- Buckingham Palace is yet to respond to a request for comment
Preparations for the event in May have been overshadowed by the couple’s revelations about the King, Prince William and other royals in Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare, a Netflix documentary and a series of TV interviews.
The prince’s recent high-profile, stinging criticism of his family has led to speculation over whether Harry — who stepped down from royal duties in 2020 — would be invited to the coronation at all.
It has also raised questions about whether he would attend.
“I can confirm the Duke has recently received email correspondence from His Majesty’s office regarding the coronation,” a spokesperson for Prince Harry said.
“An immediate decision on whether the Duke and Duchess will attend will not be disclosed by us at this time.”
The coronation ceremony for King Charles III and Camilla, Queen Consort, will be held on Saturday, May 6, at London’s Westminster Abbey.
King Charles has expressed his wish for his wife to be known as Queen Camilla upon his coronation.
The coronation itself will be followed by another procession, in which the King and Queen will be joined by other members of the royal family, as well as make an appearance on the palace balcony.
Buckingham Palace is yet to respond to a request for comment.
