Occasional Digest - a story for you

A man has been shot dead outside a gym in Sydney’s west this morning.

Just after 6.30am, police and paramedics arrived at martial arts gym Elite Fight Force, on Carlingford Street, Sefton, after reports of a shooting.

Police said the 40-year-old man died of a single gun shot wound, despite efforts by paramedics to save him.

A worker at a neighbouring business told ABC News he heard multiple shots being fired.

“I heard four to six shots and then a gap and then another series of shots,” the worker said.

“Then I heard a car speed off.”

A person from a separate business on Carlingford Street said the area was blocked off and “chaotic”.

“There are people everywhere. Family members are arriving and running around. It’s chaotic at the moment,” he said.

Bankstown detectives and the Homicide Squad are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

A crime scene has been established and the street has been blocked off.

Detectives are also investigating whether a car found on fire on Magdella Street, Birrong at about 7.10am today was the getaway car used by the shooter.

More to come.
