Kalpna Patel-Knight, head of entertainment at the BBC, said: “We have three superbly funny titans of Saturday evening TV back on our screens with these fabulous formats.”

The Wheel will venture into its fourth series, while Blankety Blank is gearing up for its 20th since it began with the late Terry Wogan hosting in 1979.

Michael McIntyre has been amazed by the enduring success of The Wheel – an idea that he dreamt up in during lockdown.

He said: “Do you remember there was the two metre thing? On The Wheel you’re two metres from each other just about.

“We went to the set designer’s garden and measured it all out.

“I’m pleased that this show is a ratings success, it really has gone well and people like it.”

And speaking to The Sun at the launch of The Wheel in 2022, the funnyman laughed: “Also, once we were released into the world, it was great to hear directly from people.

“In fact I went to the football a couple of weeks ago and I tried not to get noticed.

“I put my head down, and then a football fan saw me and he goes ‘The Wheel, The Wheel’, he started singing The Wheel and then he went straight back to screaming at the players.

“So I actually really enjoyed that.”

The new series of The Weakest Link will be Romesh’s second at the helm since he replaced Anne Robinson in December 2021.

He revealed at the time he felt anxious about the role as he “didn’t want to ruin” the show.

Speaking on The One Show he said: “When I talked to the BBC about doing it obviously you’re excited because The Weakest Link is like a massive thing.

“But I just thought…I didn’t want to ruin it. That was what I was worried about.”

Full broadcast details for all three series will be confirmed in due course.
