The police in Borno state, Northeast Nigeria, said it would deploy 13,639 officers for election duty across the state.
Commissioner of Police, Abdu Umar, made this known Wednesday, Feb. 22, in Maiduguri while speaking to HumAngle.
The police chief said the total number of personnel deployed includes mainly the conventional police and other sister security agencies.
The CP said, “while the police are deploying 11,126 personnel, other agencies like the Nigeria security and civil defense corps, the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Nigeria Correctional Service, Nigeria Customs Service, and the military will deploy a total of 2,513 personnel.
The CP said the security agencies had on Tuesday carried a joint operational show of force in Maiduguri.
He said deployments would be made to all local government areas except Guzama, which is hitherto not accessible.
He said the police bomb disposal unit would be deployed to clear all significant polling and collation—centers before voting to prevent any threat to lives.
CP Umar said police armed tactical units would be deployed to escort personnel conveying sensitive election materials to various locations.
He said more reinforcement would be made in areas “liberated” from terror groups, and some identified flashpoints for violence.
