CENTRAL Turkey was shaken by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake on Monday.

The quake was followed by another strong tremor.

A 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit central Turkey on Monday, causing widespread panic

It is unknown at this time what the possible damage is or if there were any casualties.

The quake hit a depth of 10 kilometers – or 6.2 miles.

It had an epicenter near the town of Gaziantep.

The Disaster and Emergency Management agency in the country measured the quake at 7.4, saying that it was centered in the town of Pazarcick.

Multiple buildings in neighboring areas such as Malatya, Diyarbakir, and Malatya were brought down.

Turkey frequently has earthquakes since it sits on top of major fault lines.

The quake was felt in Lebanon and Syria.

State media in Syria reported that some buildings had collapsed in Aleppo and Hama. 

Lebanese residents were shaken from their sleep with many driving away from buildings as they swayed.
