Occasional Digest - a story for you

A DOG expert has revealed the reason why letting your dog run around with a stick in their mouth might not be the best idea.

Although it’s pretty cute seeing your pooch enjoy running around with a stick in the park it can be a bit a recipe for disaster, according Samantha Randall from Top Dog Tips.

The expert explained that you probably “shouldn’t even throw a stick for your dog.”

It might seem strange or even cruel not to let your pet play with them when you’re on a walk, but it’s for the best Samantha says.

“Hundreds of dogs are treated every year for stick impalemnts.

“We don’t let children run around with lollipops in their mouths for a reason and the same care should be taken with your dog,” she expalined.

The pet pro even revealed that it could end up being a fatal accident if your furry friend trips or falls with a stick in their mouth.

She continued: “If your throwing a stick for your dog and it lands in the ground they could actually impale themselves on that stick.”

To avoid any nasty injuries it’s best to avoid playing with sticks altogether.

It’s just not worth the risk, according to the pet expert.

But that doesn’t mean you can play fetch with your pooch.

“Just use something else, a ball, a rope, something like that to play with your dog,” she said.

She added: “Don’t feel bad if you do some of these things with your pet.

“They are all common activities that a lot of pet owners do with their pups.”

The pro confessed to doing the same thing before she knew how bad it could be as well.
