Occasional Digest - a story for you

IF you were asked how you cooked pasta, it’d be pretty likely that you would use a pan of boiling water.

Social media user Jenn Thai, whose TikTok profile is @thisjenngirl, uploaded a video of a pan of pasta cooking – but there was no boiling water in sight.

Jenn titled the clip “the only way I’ll make pasta ever.”

She then told her 10,900 followers: “I will never go back to boiling pasta in water ever again.”

Instead, the food pro explained how she just needed two ingredients to get her pasta to cook to perfection.

Jenn continued: “Simmer a single serving of pasta in one cup of chicken broth and ¾ cups of milk until al dente.”

The camera then panned to her serving up her delicious looking pasta dish after it had been simmering.

She went on to say: “And oh my gosh.

“I served mine with crispy prosciutto and freshly shaved parmesan. So good.”

Jenn also revealed that her culinary discovery came about when she wanted pasta but didn’t have the ingredients she usually used.

She revealed in the comment section: “The result of having no pasta sauce, butter or cream.

“But it worked out for the best.”

And lots of her followers were quick to agree, as they said the thought alone was making them hungry.

One commented: “My brain has never thought of this but it’s such a good idea.”

A second wrote: “If this is wrong then I don’t want to be right – that looks delicious.”

While a third said: “Genius. Thank you.”

And a fourth added: “I just made it. I added salt and pepper, it was amazing.”

They continued: “Very flavourful, thanks for sharing.”

Others also added that they’d been doing this technique for a while and would recommend it too.

One said: “Yes, it’s the best. Try sauteeing some garlic and mushrooms first with some herbs before adding the broth/milk.”

While another continued: “That’s how we used to do it growing up.”
