A DAD forked out an eye-watering £1,000 on Prime energy drinks for his two sons as a late Christmas present.

The crafty dad made the 80 mile round-trip from his home in Retford, Nottinghamshire, to Wakey Wines in Wakefield.

He splurged £1,000 on the energy drink, which is supposed to retail for just £1.99 a bottle.

The viral drink – created by YouTube stars KSI and Logan Paul – has sent Brits into a frenzy after it hit the shelves.

There were scenes of chaos in Aldi this week after the budget supermarket began stocking Prime for £1.99.

But Wakey Wines shared a video of the dad and his two beaming sons after they paid over the odds to secure three flavours of the hydration drink.

The owner Abdul posted the clip on TikTok to congratulate the unnamed father.

He asked the parent: “So how much have you spent in total?”

The dad, clutching one of the packs, replied: “£1,000.”

Abdul continued: “£1,000 and you just bought all this for Christmas present, yeah?”

He then turned to the boys, saying: “You’ve got a good daddy, I’ll give you a bag of free candy, it’s on me.”

Viewers were left stunned by the dad’s splurging – especially as supermarket Asda is selling Prime for £2.

One wrote: “Bro that’s worth £150 max.”

Another said: “U know ur rich when u walk out of Wakey Wines with Prime.”

Advertised as a “hydration drink”, Prime contains mostly water added with vitamins and minerals and has few calories with no added sugar.

It is also made up of coconut water but does not have any caffeine in it.

The drink is so hot among youngsters that desperate parents have traveled more than 500 miles just to get their hands on a bottle.

The craze has even moved to online markets, with one savvy punter selling a “rare” bottle for a whopping £1,000.

One pub owner is accepting the drinks as payments in hopes the product’s price will soar once supply dries out.

Prime was created and popularised by YouTube stars KSI and Logan Paul and has seen demand skyrocket in recent weeks.

Its popularity grew after the pair promoted it heavily around high-profile celebrity boxing matches in the UK.

It was originally only sold in Asda, but Aldi recently landed an exclusive deal to stock it for a limited time.

This led to carnage in stores as children as young as seven were shoved out of the way so shoppers could get their hands on the drink.

An Aldi spokesperson said: “We’re sorry that some customers were unable to get their hands on this product, however, demand has been extremely high.

“We limited purchases to one of each variant per customer so that as many customers as possible had a chance to buy it.”
