We expect the service at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl to run from 7pm to after 9pm and to pay tribute to the Gunditjmara (Kirrae Whurrong/Djab Wurrung) and Bundjalung elder through words, song and dance.
I’m Yara Murray-Atfield and I’m joining you from the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation to take you through the tributes, performances and memories that we’ll be hearing tonight.
Before the service starts ABC Editor Indigenous Radio, Bundjalung and Kullilli man Daniel Browning, will answer some questions from where he works on Arakwal and Bundjalung country on the far north coast of NSW.
During the service, we’ll have some insights from Yuin musician Corey Webster, also known by his stage name Nooky. You might know him as the host of triple j show Blak Out — he’ll be sharing his thoughts and musical expertise with us from Wallumedegal land in Sydney.
It’ll be a special night — thanks for joining us.
