Authorities have issued an emergency warning for the Moe River at Darnum in Victoria’s east where major flooding is occurring.

The flooding along the river and in its catchment is mostly affecting farming areas.

The river exceeded the major flood level of 4.6 metres and authorities have issued a warning to people to not to enter floodwater and to consider evacuating their homes if necessary.

SES regional agency commander Jen Harnden said the flooding was mostly affecting farmland.

“Those farmers need to move their cattle or stock or any equipment they have to higher ground,” Ms Harnden said.

She said more flooding was expected today.

“We’re setting up a regional operations service in Moe and we’ll be monitoring the situation throughout the day.

“We are expecting a potential 20 millimetres to hit those catchments this morning so we’ll monitor those river systems and look at the consequences and impacts.”
